Five Tools to Navigate the Liminal Space with Awareness

If you landed here, it’s probably because you’re already familiar with the term liminal. But more and more, I realise that most people aren’t.

Liminal means "in between."

It’s a word I love (and live), and it describes moments or spaces that are on the edge - endings and beginnings. It’s the threshold between what was and what’s coming next.

These moments are powerful - the void where growth, creativity, and transformation often begin. But they’re also disorienting, uncertain, and undefined.

So I don’t think it’s just that the word isn’t well known - I think it reflects how we’ve learned to overlook or even avoid the parts of life that feel uncertain, even when they matter most.

We’re taught to only value clarity, certainty, and progress.
We don’t just skip the in-between, we’ve learned not to name it at all!

But the liminal - the threshold - is where the most powerful shifts actually happen. This is where Possibility lives.

Just learning the word liminal can change how we meet these moments: with more curiosity, more compassion, and more space to unfold.

If you’re there - questioning everything, sensing something new but not quite seeing it yet - here are five ways to find your center when everything else feels like a rug pull:

1. Regulate your nervous system

When you're in a liminal space, your nervous system may interpret the uncertainty as a threat.
This can lead to anxiety, brain fog, overthinking, or even shutdown.

Grounding yourself isn't just about feeling calm - it's about restoring access to your full intelligence, creativity, and inner knowing.

Quiet the noise and find stillness.Come back to your body. Use your breath, movement, rest, and practices that help you settle into safety.
Yes, this also means avoiding screens before bedtime and upon waking up.

When everything’s shifting, grounding is non-negotiable.

2. Recenter and listen inward

In the absence of outer clarity, your inner compass becomes essential.
Liminal space tends to stir up old patterns, outdated beliefs, and questions of identity.

That’s why it’s so important to pause, reassess, and ask:
What’s no longer true?
What am I ready to release?
What’s the good in my life I can count on?
What’s quietly calling me forward?

Before you seek answers out there, come back to the truth within.

3. Reconnect with your Essence & Empower yourself with the right tools

Liminal space often strips away the roles, routines, or external identities we usually rely on.
Reconnecting with your Essence helps you remember that your worth and direction don’t depend on outer stability.

When you understand how you’re naturally designed to navigate life - your energy, decision-making, and timing - you reclaim agency and confidence in the process.

I cannot think of a better tool to navigate transitions than knowing how you're meant to move through life.

4. Access your own clarity and open up to Possibility

Clarity doesn’t come from thinking harder - it comes from being witnessed, mirrored, and asked the right questions.

A safe space to speak it out loud, hear your own voice, and reflect on what’s real can shift everything.

When you give yourself that space, new possibilities start to emerge.

5. Stay close to what matters

In transitional seasons, it can be tempting to freeze, distract, or disengage. But presence is a powerful stabiliser.

Staying close to what truly matters - your values, your joy, your aliveness - helps you navigate uncertainty without losing yourself.
